Current state of the journalism profession is despicable and pathetic

By Miffs12 The current state of the journalism profession is despicable and pathetic or is it a case of the profession being invaded by hungry and uncouth beings.Gone is the era when journalism was a societal cornerstone guiding public opinion and keeping the government of the day in check,a media that sought to build and foster unity. What we have now is mental adolescents and virgins masquerading as professional journalists yet in reality they are stooges remote controlled by their chefs who are inclined to a political organisation.Journalists who write for a living under the guidance of dodgy political characters are a danger to society in the sense that their role is to impress the boss at all costs at the expense of journalism ethics. Willie Musarurwa described this trend as sunshine or yellow journalism, the good thing however is that a new type of media is playing a better role of informing people with provision of verifiable sources-and that is social network.Gone are the days when a journalist's credentials would only be debated in taxis or swallowed without scrutiny,as a result of social network, the journalist is no longer a sacred creation. Many a journalist have been exposed for their bias and political inclination that is only geared towards pockets and not societal development,as Mthwakazians we must utilise the social media space to inform, educate, build and shun mediocre journalism that seeks to destroys the pillars of our foundation."We will stand firm & firm we will"
